About

One person builds these tools. This page says what they do, why they run on your own computer, and how they are paid for — because a site that asks for a bank statement should be willing to say all three.

What this is

OCR Snip turns documents into spreadsheets. A PDF bank statement becomes rows you can check. A photograph of a table becomes cells. A .qbo file your computer refuses to open becomes a CSV, and a CSV becomes the .qbo an accounting program will import. Each tool does one of those jobs and nothing else.

Why it runs in your browser

Not as a slogan. Reading a statement is arithmetic on text, and arithmetic does not need a server: the PDF reader, the text recognition and the spreadsheet writer all run as code inside this tab. Once that is true, the honest thing is to not build the upload at all. There is no bucket with your statements in it, no queue, no retention window to trust — the file is opened by the browser you are already using and stays there.

You can check that rather than believe it. Open the network panel of your browser's developer tools, convert a file, and watch what is requested: the page, its code, the fonts, and nothing carrying your document. The fonts are served from this site for the same reason — a page that promises your file never leaves the tab should not be asking another company for its letters either.

The same decision has a cost, and it is only fair to name it. Nobody here can look at your file to work out what went wrong, so a problem has to be described, or reproduced on a document with the real numbers replaced. Big files are limited by your own machine rather than by a server we could make bigger.

What it is trying to be better at

Everything in this field claims accuracy. The claim is unverifiable by the person reading it, which is why the statement tools here do something else: every row is checked against the running balance printed on the statement itself. When the arithmetic does not agree, the row is marked — not quietly rounded, not silently dropped. "These seven rows do not reconcile, look at them" is worth more than "99% accurate", because it tells you where to spend your attention.

How it is paid for

The format converters are free and uncapped: no row limit, no trial, no account. The heavy tools — reading a PDF or a scanned statement — show you the whole result on screen for nothing, and ask $4.99 for a 7-day pass when you want the complete file downloaded. One payment, nothing to cancel, refundable for 30 days.

There are no ads on these pages and nothing about you is sold. Two analytics counters record which pages and which tools get used, both of them named on the privacy page; neither one can see your documents, because your documents never leave your tab.

Payments are handled by Paddle, which is the merchant of record: they take the payment, charge the right tax for your country and issue the receipt. The legal details and the business behind the site are on the terms page.

Who builds it

One person, not a company — which is why the tools are narrow and why the writing on this site sounds like a person rather than a brand. It also means the support address is read by the person who wrote the code: if a statement from your bank comes out wrong, the fix usually lands in the same week. Write to us and that is who answers.
